Ganesh Bookends

There is no more fitting Hindu deity for a bookend than Lord Ganesha. Among his many areas of expertise, Lord Ganesh is known as the God of Scholarship. Scholars, students, and scribes ask for his guidance before any new undertaking. His name in Sanskrit breaks into “Ga” which refers to the intellect, and “Na” meaning wisdom, so Ganesh is considered the God of Intellect and Wisdom. Ganesh so loved learning that he sacrificed one of his tusks. The story goes that Ganesh was writing down the Mahbharata and his pen quit on him. Rather than interrupt the flow of the story, Ganesh broke off one of his tusks and just kept on writing. You will notice on many statues of Lord Ganesh that he has one broken tusk, though there is no fixed image of Lord Ganesh as there is, say, of Nataraj. Ganesh will guard your precious books with the same respect and determination he showed in writing down ancient scripture. His bookends will be a valuable addition to your library. –
