Prayer flags have been used since antiquity by Asian people. The idea for prayer flags is believed to have originated with the Bon, a very ancient Tibetan spiritual tradition that existed before Buddhism. Single pieces of cloth are printed with spiritual symbols or words and then hung up to move with the breeze. As the air passes through the fabric it picks up the essence of the prayer and blesses the surrounding area. The mandalas on our Meditation Mandala Prayer Flag have been created to be used as tools for your meditations. Mandalas are religious art forms used by Hindus and Buddhists. Its form has both symbolic and literal meanings. When you gaze upon a mandala you can begin at the inner most image and work your way outward and expand your awareness to include the universe. Or you might begin at the outer fringe of the mandala and get more and more specific as you move inward, eliminating all extraneous thoughts until you are focused on only the One in the center of all things. Because the symbols in the mandalas are considered sacred, please treat old or worn out prayer flags with respect. Burning is an appropriate form of disposal. You should avoid letting prayer flags touch the ground and please do not wear the flags as clothes.
