Awakening Shakti

Dear Belle: Awakening Shakti by Sally Kempton truly outlines the importance of awakening this divine feminine energy. First it is important to say what Shakti is. Shakti has been said to be the personification of divine feminine creative power, primordial cosmic energy and generally the dynamic force that is thought to move throughout the entire universe.
On the earth plane it most actively manifests through female embodiment and creativity although it is present in males in its potential, unmanifest form. It is not only responsible for creation, it is the agent of all change.

There are some people whom we have all known whom we recognize as not only agents of change, but also who seem to be full of energy whose light and Shakti affect whomever is in their presence. Some of those people are known to be spiritual teachers or gurus. Our own guru Ma Jaya was felt to possess an enormous amount of Shakti and when anybody was in her presence, they felt filled by this feminine energy. However, her chelas were also male and were also infused by Shakti even though it has been thought of as a feminine energy. But perhaps this only means that feminine part of them, that creative, enlivened element, was theirs also to enjoy.

Many people talk about energy and how they desire energy to fulfill their tasks, but when somebody asks for Shakti, they are truly asking for spiritual awakening and passionate celebration of their lives. We all desire to live and have full and passionate lives, serving not only ourselves but also those around us.

How do we do this, one might ask? As Ms.Kempton says, one of the most powerful ways is to invoke the Mother’s Shakti through the divine manifestations of Kali, Saraswati, Lakshmi, Radha and Bhuvaneshvari, a goddess less known, but who creates the space for sacred transformation.

Om Namah Shakti, Ki Jai!
