Dear Spiritual Explorer: Don’t have much money, but would like to give my nephew a piece of jewelry. Any suggestions? Roland P., San Diego, CA
Dear Roland: I suggest the Om Tile Bracelet with wooden beads and tiles with the word “Om” described upon it. It is elasticized and so would fit probably most wrists. I have heard young teens describe it as “cool.” And more importantly, for you, it is very reasonably priced.
OM Tile Bracelet
What I have found interesting, having a couple of nephews myself, is that they seem to really appreciate anything I buy them. They just like “stuff.”
The symbol of Om which predominates in all Hindu art and all over Nepal and India, can be seen virtually everywhere. Hindus believed that as creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as the sound “Om.”
What I didn’t realize and was to find in my research is that there is the belief that everything existed in a latent state of potentiality “in the beginning.” The vibration of “Om” symbolized the manifestation of God in form. “Om” is the reflection of the absolute reality, without beginning or the end and embracing all that exists. Therefore, the mantra Om is the name of God, the vibration of the Supreme.
I love hearing the sound of Om at the beginning and the end of group meditations. When people’s voices are uplifted in chanting Om there is a peaceful resonance with everything; chanting Om has the ability to bring unity and spirit into a room when chanted.
I am sure your nephew will love his Om bracelet.
