DEAN EVENSON: Sound Healing

Evoking the power of music to heal, Dean Evenson doesn’t create compositions so much as he establishes moods.Mostly culled from previous releases, the 13 tracks of this disc grow songs through purely organic means, pairing instruments like flute, piano, guitar, harp, saxophone and cello with samples of nature sounds.Evenson and his New Age “Peace Through Music” project conjure feelings and vibes reminiscent of a less electronic Vangelis. The ensemble’s efforts at music therapy relax the listener with chirping birds, cascading falls and protracted, winsome melodies.Without a single note misplaced and nary an alpha wave misaligned, Sound Healing will seduce the senses, mollify the muscles and thaw the thalamus.Eric Bensel
