The first word that comes to mind which contemplating DJ Cheb I Sabbah’s first official mix album is “eclectic.” It’s not often that a DJ finds a way to segue from energetic drum’n’bass tunes from artists like Asian Dub Foundation and Najma to a deeply meditative, beat-free piece from Paul Horn and actually pull it off. DJ Cheb I Sabbah does this and more, as he explores the colors of the world over the course of fourteen continuously mixed tracks on AS FAR AS. Expect a dose of African percussion and tribal chant on a few tracks, the exotic ambience of the Middle East (including a track from Egyptian chanteuse Natacha Atlas), an offering of Indian devotion and much more during this adventurous hour of music.
