Incense has had, and still has, a great significance in China. In fact, the origin of the name Hong Kong comes from the significant production of incense from China. ‘ Hong’ means ‘fragrant’ or ‘incense’ and ‘Kong’ means ‘harbor’. It started with incense tree, imported from Vietnam, which flourished in the soils around Hong Kong. The wood from these trees was collected, assembled at Tsim Sha Tsui and shipped in junks to Hong Kong Island. From there Chinese incense has been shipped all over the world.
