Laxmi (Lakshmi), or Sri, is the goddess of abundance and good fortune. She is the wife of the god Vishnu and is usually shown sitting or standing on a lotus. Gold coins are seen dropping from her palm, blessing all alike with prosperity. With her auspcious nature and reputation for granting fertility, luck, wealth, and well being, it is not surprising that in India she is regularly worshipped in every shop and home, and especially during the festival of Diwali.

The Laxmi statue (shown at left) is the main Laxmi statue on Kashi Ashram and is honored every summer at Laxmi puja.
