RUSSILL PAUL: Yoga of Sound

trans_1x1-2970728

Despite the connotations yoga has with postures and exercise, the ancient practice has a much more diverse range of uses. One example is Nada Yoga, which centers around using sound/music for devotional as well as therapeutic purposes. This three disc set from skilled instrumentalist/chanter Russill Paul focuses on three sub-practices of Nada Yoga: Bhava Yoga, Shadba Yoga and Shakti Yoga. Bhava Yoga drives the listener to a state of rapture using melodic chants. Shadba Yoga is based on the use of mantras to open higher energy sources within. Shakti Yoga is designed for chakra stimulation. Each program includes nearly an hour of mellifluous chants and traditional Indian instrumentation.
