Play of Consciousness

Swami Muktananda

Another hundred years and Play of Consciousness by Swami Muktananda will rank up there in the circles of spiritual journeys with Autobiography of a Yogi by Swami Yogananda. Both books, with remarkable candor, describe their authors’ experiences along the spiritual path. These same books encourage fellow seekers with their own spiritual endeavors. What is God, asks the seeker. Another name for God is awareness replies one spiritual guide. If this be so, then developing your consciousness is of paramount importance for finding union with God. Swami Muktananda candidly tells you how he did it. In his autobiography Swami Muktananda tells his story of how he found his guru, Bhagavan Nityananda, who initiated him into shaktipat and led him to enlightenment, then sent him to the West to share his learning. His successor Gurumayi Chidvilasananda continues to share the traditions of the lineage (see Daughters of the Goddess by Linda Johnsen) today. This newest edition of Play of Consciousness marks the 30th consecutive year that Swami Muktananda’s autobiography of life on a spiritual path has been in print. This particular edition, even though it is paperback, is beautifully illustrated with photographs of Muktananda. Prof. Paul Muller-Ortega’s afterword suggests how you can effectively study this important work. –
