Songs of the River is performed by the Kirtan (chanting) group of Kashi Ashram, an interfaith spiritual community that practices service, compassion and non-judgement for all and was founded by Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati in 1976. Ma’s India is the spiritual bookstore of Kashi Ashram. Songs of the River includes the 40 verse chant of the Hanuman Chalisa as performed by nearly the entirety of Kashi Ashram, with such heart and soul. Lord Hanuman, the Hindu deity of compassion and service really embodies the heart and soul of Kashi Ashram whose main practice by all who reside at Kashi and all who visit Kashi from all over the world, is Kindness. And Lord Hanuman may be the kindest of all the deities. The Hanuman Chalisa as performed by the Kashi kirtan walas is a one-of-a-kind recording, and stays absolutely true to the beauty of Lord Hanuman…and the beauty of Kashi Ashram.-
